What Is an Eco-friendly Renovation Work?RénoVert Tax Credit Newly Introduced

When completing your tax declaration of the taxation years of 2016 and 2017, you’ll be able to claim the RénoVert tax Credit. This new tax credit recently introduced by the Government of Quebec concerns homeowners and co-owners who have completed or will complete eco-friendly renovation work. The renovations must be done on a construction they own as their principal residence or as a winterized cottage they usually occupy. The construction of this house must have been achieved before January 1, 2016.


What Is an Eco-friendly Renovation Work?

Renovation jobs are eco-friendly when they have a positive impact on the environment or on the energy expenses of the property. What Kind of Dwelling Is Eligible?

  • Single-family home
  • Permanently installed prefabricated house or mobile home
  • Apartment in a building held in divided co-ownership (condominium)
  • Dwelling in a residential duplex or triplex
  • Winterized cottage that you normally occupy


Claim Up To $10,000

The maximal amount you can claim with the RénoVert tax credit is $10,000, for a total of 20% of the expenses above $2,500$ that you paid before March 17, 2016, and before October 1, 2017. The renovations must be completed by an authorized contractor and the contract must be signed after March 17, 2016 and before April 1, 2017.
